When I first moved to Seattle in 2013 King Krule’s “6 Feet Beneath the Moon” was the soundtrack to my new life. It was gloomy, like the weather, and had this flare unlike anything else I’d ever listened to. There was something I always thought when I’d listen to him; imperfection. It plagues his music. It’s like life, there’s disorder but some sense of direction. It’s beautiful but unique and oddly the most comforting sound. His newest album, “The OOZ”, doesn’t carry the same messiness to it. But it is deep and in my opinion Archie Marshall’s most well-done work to date as King Krule.
In the spirit of all that is good and spooky this Halloween people will gather to watch a true reina [queen] grace our legendary Showbox stage. The young Colombiana was originally scheduled to play The Crocodile back in September which quickly sold out and was later moved to a larger venue. No better way to spend Halloween than watching the talented and mesmerizing Kali serenade us in her blend of Spanish/ English vocals.
If you hurry, you can still get tickets for the very excellent SOL at the Showbox in a couple weeks, Friday April 15th. Get the tickets here , and check out their new album The Headspace Traveler on iTunes , Soundcloud , or just go ahead and get the CD here .
Last week Kelly and I did the math: up until that night, we hadn’t so much as seen each other since the Mountain View CA date of Warped Tour in late June. Crazy, but it just made meeting up again at a show from my all-time favorite band, Yellowcard, that much more awesome.
Walnut Creek pop punk vets The Story So Far have put together a masterful tour package this go-round, and are wrapping up a North American stint this week with Four Year Strong, Terror, and Souvenirs in tow. Having just released a new self-titled in early June through Pure Noise, this talented young quintet played their biggest Seattle headliner yet at Showbox Market last Wednesday.
Tonight you’ll maybe watch the Golden State Warriors take Cleveland in a match for the NBA Championship. Tomorrow night you should watch fellow East Bay residents The Story So Far take on Showbox A.T.M.! Also featured: Boston returners Four Year Strong, LA hardcore outfit Terror, and California quartet Souvenirs. Tickets are available on the Showbox calendar, but it will almost certainly sell out, so don’t sleep on it!
TODAY, this magical day. Earlier this week New Found Glory and Yellowcard announced that after years of friendship and touring together without a proper US headlining tour, the two pop punk giants would do exactly that. This November 13th, ShowBox will host this fantastic tour with the aforementioned bands AND Tigers Jaw. VIP packages are available, featuring a limited 7″, special posters and lanyards, and a meet & greet with both headliners. Deal$. Pick up VIP packages on the official tour site, or buy a normal person ticket on the ShowBox calendar *TODAY* at 12PM.
I lamented a few months ago that Twenty One Pilots’ Blurryface tour wasn’t making it to Seattle (featuring the unfairly talented LA family that is Echosmith), but they’ve apparently heard me out… TOP and Echosmith are going to sell out the Paramount Theater on October 22nd. I’d put money on that, especially since Blurryface took the #1 spot this week. Tickets are available now for this outrageous tour and start at $36.50 on the STG Presents website.
Acceptance’s first hometown show will be 7/11 at The Showbox ATM. Tickets are available RIGHT NOW online and start at $29 with fees and stuff.
If you haven’t heard, much of Seattle’s music community has been beside themselves with today’s big news: The Showbox will be hosting Acceptance’s first hometown headlining show in nine years this July 11th. Seattle was collectively holding its breath for the inevitable hometown show announcement, and at last the news has broken. Tickets go on sale this Friday and will absolutely sell out the 1,100 cap Showbox At The Market. Keep an eye out here for more news and opener announcements (between just us, RCA is hoping for appearances from This Providence, Daphne Loves Derby, Gatsby’s American Dream, and New Heights!), we’ll be posting all that good stuff as soon as we humanly can!
