Washington band Night Argent is going to be the next big thing out of Washington. Huge. You may have heard rumblings lately around town of a new “supergroup” forming. Well, it’s The Wild Things. Brandon “Bird” Ereth and Chad Keller of Monsters Scare You!, Cody Freiburger of Keeping Secrets, Leo Martin of Moneta, and Preston McDonald of Sky Pilot have joined forces to create this new rock band, and they’re making moves. Now in the studio working on their debut album, Joe Bosslet and I had a chance to catch this veteran band’s first show at the Nectar Lounge on 12/11. If you haven’t heard of CreativeLive, jump on it. This Seattle/SF-based teaching community offers world class instruction on photography and videography, art, design, dance, and of course, music. Music/Audio mastermind (and local production guru) Finn McKenty chatted with me a bit about CreativeLive, working in such an exciting organization, and hammering out course materials for today’s musicians. New Lungs is the indie/post-rock/post-punk product of five skilled Pacific Northwest musicians that put on a mean stage show. And what better way to represent the local scene than with a few guys from Seattle, Bellevue, and Bellingham.
The Fastback Sessions is a brand new documentary series featuring intimate performances by a variety of Northwest talent. Hosted by Fastback Studios in a residential North Seattle neighborhood, these sessions show you a different side of the artist while subtly promoting the awesome studio space. Settling in the heart of Seattle, an immense gathering of locals comes together every year to celebrate a three-day music and arts festival known as Bumbershoot. This annual event takes place over Labor Day weekend, August 31-September 2, at Seattle Center where over 120 musical guests, artists, writers, and comedians are scheduled to attend.
Bumbershoot, started in 1971, is Seattle’s longest-lived music and arts festival and known as the Pacific Northwest’s largest showcase for regional talent. Such talents include hometown heroes Death Cab for Cutie, Vicci Martinez (a top four finalist on The Voice in 2011), and Grynch. It was announced that Death Cab for Cutie will perform their 2003 LP Transatlanticism in its entirety for its 10 year anniversary. The band revealed the news via their website and Facebook – the response has been explosive! All of the positive feedback indicates that Death Cab’s performance will be something you won’t want to miss.
