Alabaster played their last show to a packed High Dive last Saturday evening, and–despite the obvious bias–I think it’s safe to say that we had four greatly talented bands onstage that night. A couple hundred bodies filled the room throughout the course the show, and we enjoyed eats from the bar kitchen rather than BYOF-ing from Royal Grinders across the street. (Sidenote: The Garlic Fries are pretty damn good, but I’ll save that for another blog.)

Last Friday, I commemorated my return to Seattle by photographing the Moneta Music Video Release Show at Showbox at the Market. It was a strange feeling stepping into that room after almost a year of going to shows in New York City venues, but it’s hard not to appreciate the wood floors and upside down red umbrella sculptures on the ceiling of the original Showbox.

After years in the front lines of the Seattle rock scene, Alabaster is going on an indefinite hiatus. The quintet will play two more shows: Louie G’s in Fife on 9/28, and Seattle’s the High Dive 10/5. Read the band’s post on the hiatus after the jump.

The night before I moved to New York City, Rain City Ambience helped host a Rain City Rock Camp For Girls benefit show at Chop Suey. Four local female-fronted bands rocked the house, and we even raised enough money to send a girl to camp!
