    1. Local Spotlight : New Lungs

      Posted on in Local Spotlight

New Lungs is the indie/post-rock/post-punk product of five skilled Pacific Northwest musicians that put on a mean stage show. And what better way to represent the local scene than with a few guys from Seattle, Bellevue, and Bellingham.

    2. Album Review : New Lungs – Reviver

      Posted on in Album Review

Many bands have tried to imagine the color spectrum in the form of sonic devices. Bands have been very successful at producing different colors with multiple songs (The Dear Hunter, Between The Buried And Me), but Seattle’s own New Lungs spans a variety of moods and styles on the opening track of their newest EP, Reviver. ‘Colors’ stars off indefinite and eerie, bursting into a spastic instrumental before settling down with the first verse. The song is enhanced by the wallpapers that would swirl around the computer screen, vibrant and moody with their own colors. The way the verse dramatically swings into the chorus, the build up, the echoes that signal the end, all of the encompassing parts work together like the spectrum of a rainbow.

Every once in a while, a new band comes around and reinvents the wheel in a way that hooks you in instantly. It’s not a vain attempt to start the next “big thing”, but an indicator that within the band lies a wealth of musical knowledge and influences that contribute to something fresh and exciting. New Lungs’ “Lanterns” certainly fits this description, as this is one of the most dynamic EPs I have heard from the local experimental/indie genre in years.

    8. Staff Blog : Music Monday: It’s REALLY Cold Outside Edition

      Posted on in Staff Blog

Every time I post a Music Monday blog I try to come up with an arbitrary theme that really has nothing to do with the content of the post. However, I know for a fact that extreme coldness is an epidemic in this country right now, as the people I follow on Instagram have been Insta-ing their weather widgets, parka pics, and a plethora of other photos that imply “my city is colder than yours” for the past week.
